What is FKMCD?

The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) is the official mosquito control provider for the Florida Keys which is located at the southern tip of the Florida penisula in Monroe County, FL.

Sunset over the ocean, boats docked, vibrant sky with clouds.
Protecting the  beautiful Florida Keys from mosquitoes and mosquito borne disease requires a specialized team of experts.

As a special Taxing District within the state of Florida, FKMCD was created by a vote of the people more than 75 years ago when it became apparent that a specialized entity was needed to combat mosquitoes and protect the business interests, quality of life and health of the tropcial paradise.

The District's five person, elected Board of Commissioners provides policy and direction for the Executive Director and staff of approximately 75 trained and licensed mosquito control professionals.

FKMCD uses a variety of control methods to achieve its goal, but at the heart of them all are its motivated and dedicated staff.

Domestic mosquito source elimination is paramount to FKMCD's success.

The methodology may have evolved  over the last 75 years but the original intent set forth in the District's enabling legislation is just as relevant today.
