  • August 18, 2020 – The Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board votes four to one in favor of proceeding with the Oxitec trial in the year 2021. Read the FKMCD news release on the vote HERE. 
  • July 21, 2020 – Florida Keys Mosquito Control District Board schedules vote on Oxitec Proposal.
  • July 14, 2020 – Florida Keys Mosquito Control District Board District and Oxitec host Public Educational ‘Webinar’ to answer questions about the proposed Oxitec Project.

  • June 16, 2020 – Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) announces approval to Oxitec for field test the use of genetically engineered Aedes aegypti mosquitoes as a way to reduce mosquito populations to protect public health from mosquito-borne illnesses.   • May 1, 2020 – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announces approval to Oxitec to field test the use of genetically engineered Aedes aegypti mosquitoes as a way to reduce mosquito populations to protect public health from mosquito-borne illnesses.   • October 11, 2019 – 30-day Public Comment period on the Experimental Use Permit ends.
  • September 11, 2019 – 30-day Public Comment period on the Experimental Use Permit application opened today.  It will close on October 11, 2019, at 11:59 p.m.
  • September 11, 2019 – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accepts Oxitec’s application for an Experimental Use Permit for its 2nd Generation Aedes aegypti mosquito.
